The Giving Grove Welcomes Cincinnati Affiliate!
|
|
We are pleased to announce that The Giving Grove is spreading its roots once again - this time to CINCINNATI! Green Umbrella joined the Giving Grove affiliate network this month. Green Umbrella strives to lead collaboration, incubate ideas, and catalyze solutions that create resilience and sustainability for its region. The Green Umbrella incubator is home to The Common Orchard Project, founded in 2017 by Chris Smyth to co-create a more compassionate and productive community. The Common Orchard Project invests in vacant land by growing food and other useful materials as close to community members as possible.
We are delighted to partner with Green Umbrella and their Common Orchard Project to bring Giving Grove orchards to neighborhoods throughout Cincinnati. Their commitment to creating vibrant, sustainable communities will make them amazing partners in our affiliate network! Welcome to the Giving Grove family, Cincinnati!

Thank You for Your Generous Support!
|
|
We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to you, we surpassed our matching funds campaign goal in December! Your generosity will allow us to plant 26 new orchards! Those orchards will be home to approximately 390 trees growing 312,000 servings annually while beautifying their communities and improving our environment! That is a BIG IMPACT.
We are so thankful to all those who helped the orchards provide free, nutritious food to communities that needed it most during this challenging year. Many of our neighbors and friends relied on charitable food systems for the first time in 2020. It is heart-warming to know that they will soon be able to pick free, fresh fruit, nuts, and berries in their neighborhoods for generations to come.
Thank you!

- Memphis Tilth planted its first orchards in 2020, serving urban core communities with high rates of food insecurity and childhood poverty.
- Louisville Grows joined the affiliate network in the fall of 2020 and will begin planting fruit trees this spring.
- With support from Giving Grove affiliate The Big Garden, new orchards took root in four communities throughout rural Kansas. These orchards represent Giving Grove’s first steps toward addressing rural food insecurity.
