The Giving Grove Welcomes Project Pando to Its National Network!

We’re thrilled to announce that Project Pando has officially joined The Giving Grove National Network! This partnership in North Carolina marks an important step in expanding our mission, and we’re eager to get started. Beginning in Spring 2025, we will work together to plant over 200 small community orchards across Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, providing free, fresh food to neighborhoods in need while helping people reconnect with nature.

A Perfect Alignment

Since our founding in 2013, The Giving Grove has focused on providing sustainable, healthy food sources to communities facing food insecurity. Our national network of over 650 orchards across 16 cities has provided fruits, nuts, and berries to families while also promoting environmental sustainability. These orchards improve air quality, increase tree canopy, and sequester carbon, making them vital for both people and the planet.

Based in Raleigh, Project Pando is dedicated to connecting people with trees and promoting sustainability to heal communities and the environment. Their work includes managing a native tree nursery, organizing large-scale seed collection efforts, and engaging in education and outreach. By joining forces with The Giving Grove, Project Pando can expand their mission by planting orchards that provide fresh, healthy food where it's needed most.

We are so excited to partner with The Giving Grove and start a community orchard program here in the Triangle region of North Carolina. The Giving Grove provides strong support through their years of experience planting orchards and organizing programs that strengthen communities. With their help, we plan to establish over 200 small orchards spread across Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. These orchards will strengthen our communities, provide local healthy food, and continue to connect people with trees!
— EB Brown, Co-Director, Project Pando

We’re also excited for the environmental impact this partnership will have as well. Each Giving Grove orchard has the potential to provide over 7,500 servings of fresh food every year. Beyond that, these orchards will help remove 195 pounds of air pollution and sequester 29 tons of carbon annually. This is a perfect example of how food security and environmental sustainability can go hand in hand.

Project Pando’s innovative approach to engaging communities and promoting environmental sustainability aligns perfectly with The Giving Grove’s mission. We are thrilled to bring our national expertise to the Triangle region, where the impact of these orchards will be
felt for generations.

Better Together

This partnership isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about creating positive, lasting change. By empowering local communities to care for their food systems and the land, we’re helping build more resilient neighborhoods. Volunteers will play an essential role in planting, maintaining, and harvesting these orchards, fostering a sense of ownership and community.

We’re looking forward to breaking ground in Spring 2025 and collaborating with local residents and volunteers. This partnership will make a meaningful difference by providing fresh, nutritious food and inspiring people to get involved and take ownership of their local food systems and
tree canopy.
