Orchard Tip: Humming Line

Here is another excellent tip straight from the orchard!  Birds love berries nearly as much as we do.  If you want to deter them from eating all your juicy goodness, try a humming line.  We stumbled upon this trick while reading about sailors in Australia.  They were becoming frustrated with birds leaving droppings on their ships, so they invented the humming line.  When the line is stretched and a breeze hits it, it creates a low humming with a frequency that repels birds.

This trick is not just for brambles; try it anywhere birds are a nuisance.  Simply use twine or tape like the one listed here. String the line tightly over the area you wish to protect. As a breeze blows, listen for the hum and watch as birds avoid the area.
